Vulcan specialists
Vulcan gas heaters have warmed Australian homes for generations, and many are still in daily use. Our licensed technicians service, repair and safety test Vulcan wall furnaces, space heaters and ducted heating, with a fixed price agreed before any work starts.
Every Vulcan heater
Whether it’s a wall furnace in the hallway or gas central heating under the floor, our technicians know how Vulcan heaters are built and what tends to go wrong with them. This is the Vulcan work we do most.
Gas wall furnaces serviced, cleaned and repaired, including pilot, ignition and fan faults.
Heritage and Quasar gas heaters serviced and tested for carbon monoxide at every visit.
Vulcan gas central heating, including the heater, fan, ducts and outlets through the house.
Every Vulcan gas heater service includes a carbon monoxide test with the heater running.
Checking the flue is clear and drawing properly, and that the room has the ventilation the heater needs.
Replacing worn thermostats, igniters, thermocouples and switches on Vulcan heaters.
Vulcan heaters that have been in the house for decades. We repair them where it's worth it and tell you honestly when it isn't.
When a Vulcan is past repairing, we quote a new gas heater or a reverse cycle split system to replace it.
Common Vulcan faults
Most Vulcan problems start small: a pilot that won’t stay lit, a fan that rattles, a room that takes longer to warm up. These are the faults we fix most often, and what usually causes them.
A pilot that goes out, or a burner that lights and drops out, usually has a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot or a failing gas valve. We find the cause and fix it.
A heater that runs but doesn’t warm the room is often clogged with dust, has a tired fan or a thermostat that has drifted. We clean and test it properly.
A gas or fume smell, soot around the heater, or feeling unwell when it’s on are warning signs. Turn the heater off, open the windows and book a carbon monoxide test.
Humming, rattling or squealing means a worn fan motor, loose panels or dust build-up. Cleaning or replacing the fan usually sorts it out.
When to service
The best time for a Vulcan gas heater service is before you need it. A check ahead of the cold weather catches a worn thermocouple or a blocked flue before the first cold snap, when everyone is calling at once.
Every service includes a carbon monoxide test, and you get a written report at the end.
Book in spring or summer, when heater bookings are quietest, and have it ready for the first cold night.
Make sure your Vulcan gas heater lights first time and burns safely before the cold sets in.

At least every two years, and every year for an older heater. Each service should include a carbon monoxide test.
Yes. Any gas heater can produce carbon monoxide if it isn’t burning or venting properly, and older open-flued heaters such as the Vulcan Heritage should be tested at every service.
The usual causes are a worn thermocouple, a dirty pilot or a draught blowing it out. If it won’t stay lit after a couple of tries, leave it off and book a check.
It can be, if it’s serviced regularly and passes a carbon monoxide test. If it fails, or parts are no longer available, we’ll tell you plainly and price a replacement.
About an hour for most wall furnaces and space heaters, including the carbon monoxide test. Ducted heating takes a little longer.
Yes, where parts are still available. Older Vulcan air conditioners and evaporative coolers can often be serviced and kept running.
If the heater is under about ten years old and the fault is minor, a repair is usually worth it. For older heaters facing a big repair, we’ll give you both prices so you can decide.
