Multi-split air conditioner installation, service and repairs across Australia. One outdoor unit runs an indoor unit in each room you choose, so you get reverse cycle heating and cooling without a row of units outside.
At a glance
What is a multi-head split system?
A multi-head split system, also called a multi-split air conditioner, connects two or more indoor units to a single outdoor unit. Each indoor unit has its own remote, so every room sets its own temperature.
It works like a standard reverse cycle split system, heating and cooling by moving heat through refrigerant pipes. The difference is that the rooms share one outdoor unit, and all of them run in the same mode at once: heating or cooling.
In each room
Each indoor unit draws warm room air over a cold coil, which soaks up the heat.
In the pipes
A separate pipe run takes the heat from each room to the shared outdoor unit.
Outside
One outdoor unit releases the heat from every room.
Outside
The single outdoor unit collects heat from the outside air, even on a cold day.
In the pipes
Refrigerant carries that heat to each indoor unit that is switched on.
In each room
Each indoor unit blows room air over its warm coil and back into the room.
Benefits
Cool the bedrooms and the living area from a single outdoor unit, and heat them with it in winter.Heat the bedrooms and the living area from a single outdoor unit, and cool them with it in summer.
One outdoor unit replaces a row of them along the side of the house or on the balcony.
Every indoor unit has its own remote, and rooms you are not using stay off.
Wall, floor and ceiling units can run from the same outdoor unit, to suit each room.
It suits homes with no roof space, where ducted air conditioning cannot go.
Where it suits
Balconies and body corporate rules often allow only one outdoor unit. A multi-head system makes it count.
Narrow side passages and small courtyards leave little room for several outdoor units.
Flat roofs and raked ceilings rule out ducts. A multi-split covers several rooms without them.
Put indoor units in the upstairs bedrooms and run them all from one outdoor unit at ground level.
Give two, three or four bedrooms their own unit and remote without filling the yard.
Not sure it's the one?
A multi-head split system sits between single split systems and ducted air conditioning. These are the pros and cons of each.
